Yeah, but you have to taxi back around through Connecticut.

They don't share a border, so that'd be tricky...

Manchester's actually a good sized place. NH is a lot more populated (in the southern parts, anyhow) than VT is.

Must drive the pilots crazy, then. Unfolding and refolding those roadmaps. :-) I'm kidding of course. Beautiful places, those states. But I still think they should just call Dean a "mayor".

Monday, at the den meeting, she says "Everyone needs to email a corporation and tell them what you think about their product, be it a product you like or one you don't like. Get your parent to help, but make sure you do it...if your parent does it, I'll know..." then she looked at me and said "I always know."

Who sponsors your den? Write a letter to the sponsor and to the Boy Scout Council. Don't let this den-shelob get away with that.

When I was a den leader I ached for the boys whose parents would bring them to a den meeting and just drop them off...or worse who would sit there while the boy struggled with a project and not even offer encouragement.

You're doing scouts the right way 2J. In spite of what Miz Know-It-All thinks.

Ask her if she expects the boys to use power tools to cut out their Pinewood Derby cars.

Well, those used to be 3Lb cans a long time ago. Not anymore.

The glass is neither half full, nor half empty. It's twice as large as it needs to be.

You know, a bad dad would've denied that.

Yes, but a good dad wouldn't have spent the day worrying about whether or not he left a handprint.

Okay folks. I'm heading out the office door.

Gotta upload some pictures for the Mrs. that she took in class today. So I'll check in briefly afore we hit the road.

Well, help or not, I am provoked. :) I can't help it.

Use the opportunity to show Matthew how to not let the stupid people in our lives upset us.

I'm not sure from your wording if Steve demonstrated on the bear, or on something else, but, if he did any carving on the bear -- I would let Matthew carve a most excellent bear all by himself, applying the wonderful techniques that Steve showed him, and take it in to her, proudly telling her he did this one all himself. i know, Steve applied the proper amount of help to the carving. parents are supposed to help, and her insinuation is that he helped too much. I think I would bring it up with her. But not until I wasn't angry any more.

Some people are so stupid, they shouldn't be allowed around kids. This person is one of those. But the world is full of them - people who Matthew is going to have to deal with. Better he learn to regard them properly now, which is to limit his regard of them. Which is really not the purpose of scouting. Especially at his age. It is to reward his work and a job well done, by someone other than parents. Not minimize his efforts. ugh

You might wanna politely address these things in private with her. Very nicely, of course.

Do you have another choice of dens where you are?

I agree with Corin, 2J. You can NOT let her do this to you or any others that may not want to stand up to her. I know it takes a lot of guts to stand up to a person and confront them face to face so do as Corin said and write a letter. I have done it before myself and you may see wonderful results. It can't hurt, it can only help. I know you said all the parents seem to be pretty self-absorbed but you never know there may be some others or just one that feel like you do and they are just waiting for someone else to say something.

Heh...yeah, it's no wonder I always have trouble when I travel!

Beautiful places, those states. But I still think they should just call Dean a "mayor".

The sickening part is that the people in "real" Vermont (rural folks, mostly) didn't like him. And yet...everyone assumes that we Vermonters worshipped the guy.

On the other hand, he's such a hot head and keeps saying so many foolish things that I'm kinda hoping he gets the nomination. It'd be worth it for the entertainment value.

The more I think about this the more it bothers me. You need to call her on this. Not angrily, her job as Matthew's den leader is partly to instill confidence in whatever he tries. She is failing that when she comments critically, especially in front of the other boys. He worked hard on that project. Where is his 'attaboy' from her?

Well, my blood is boiling, too.

Here's my thought.

You have a mac. What OS are you running? Does it have iMovie on it?

You are extremely handy with the camera and iMovie can put pics together as a cute little movie. It is really, really easy to do. The boys would probably love it. You can add music and captions, transitions, effects, and voice overs.

The next project, take pictures tons of pictures of the boys working. Then make a movie.

Show it to nasty Den-shelob.

When she asked if the boys did it themselves (which they can easily do), let them say "Yes! And if you want, I can show you how, too." Let them volunteer to do a demo for the pack. There is nothing worse than having a kid show you, an adult, up at computer stuff. Expecially when they're cute.

My evil 2 cents.

If it was me, and if I'm understanding what's going on right, I'd get my kids out of that den as fast as ever I could. I might contact someone on a more regional or national level while I was at it. But I wouldn't for anything want my youngsters under the authority of such a cruel and domineering personality.

The only thing that could make me stay would be having confidence of winning the war against that lady that would be necessary if I kept the kids there.

Best of luck.
You're a good mom, so I'm sure you'll get it worked out, one way or another.
