When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. Acts 28:15

Let's Go Higher!
Read: Acts 28:11-16
When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. Acts 28:15
Bible In One Year: Acts 27-28
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Author Ragnar Arlander tells about the time he and some friends scaled Mt. Rainier. When they reached a plateau, the group decided they had gone far enough.
Arlander, however, continued the climb to find a person who had traveled on ahead. Eventually he found him resting, gazing at a beautiful glacier. The man was ready to go back, but when he saw Arlander approaching, he jumped up and exclaimed, "Since you've come, let's go higher!"
This experience makes me think of the events described in Acts 28. As the apostle Paul was traveling to Rome, he met some fellow believers, and "when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage" (v.15).
What better compliment could be offered us than to have someone say, "Talking to you has encouraged me to continue on in my spiritual walk." The world is filled with troubled and discouraged souls who are struggling along in the Christian life. Battle weary, they are almost ready to give up. When they see you, what influence do you have on them? Do you inspire them to more noble lives of service? Or does your example tend to drag them down?
May we influence others in such a way that they will take heart and say, "I want to go higher!" Richard De Haan
Oh, I would be to others
A cheering ray of light,
Inspiring them with courage
To climb some new-found height! Bosch
The human spirit soars with hope when lifted by an encouraging word.

I also had a more or less similar experience as an undergrad. In my case however, the teacher ruled that the abortion issue had already been claimed by another student so that I must choose something else. The other student was pro-life, but was such an inarticulate and ranting fanatic that his presentation (screed would be more like it) was wholely ineffective as persuasion. I ended up doing a talk on bow hunting.

True.
Get rid of the sore throat soon!
Been fighting off the 'after painting' pains and aches.
Finished my Mother-in-law's luggage on Sunday.
Painted a sailboat on it.
She took pics of both pieces, we forgot the camera like dunces, and I'll be getting copies (hopefully good ones) to scan.
*sigh*
I didn't realise how badly I had beaten my knees up while in uniform until Sunaday.
Since I don't have a good workbench to paint on, I had to do the project while sitting on the floor.
Just four years ago I could sit like that for hours without incident.
Now I walk like a robot afterwards, all stiff legged and herky-jerky in the motion.
I look like I'm about to topple over.*snort*
I'm STILL feeling it, and it's Tuesday.
Shouldn't be like this, I'm only 28.
*snort*
But the good note is that the paint project is completed.

THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL
the lion lies
beside her kill
as storks and buzzards
try to steal
her hard-earned cache
with hoof and horn
laying limp
its flesh all torn
for an early drink
has taken toll
found death so near
the water hole
and now the lion
finds the shade
with belly to the sky
she laid
until her hunger
calls again
she lies sleeping
in her den
with all her power
stealth and might
yet keeps the water hole
in sight.

I'm sure the instructor wished the other student had chosen something other that the abortion issue. Unless the instuctor was pro-choice.
Congratulations on your excellent (I'm sure) presentation on bow hunting!

The stripped and shapely
Maple grieves
The ghosts of her
Departed leaves.
The ground is hard,
As hard as stone.
The year is old,
The birds are flown.

A country preacher decided to skip services one Sunday and head to the hills to do some bear hunting. As he rounded the corner on a perilous twist in the trail, he and a bear collided, sending him and his rifle tumbling down the mountainside. Before he knew it, his rifle went one way and he went the other, landing on a rock and breaking both legs. That was the good news.
The bad news was the ferocious bear was charging at him from a distance, and he couldn't move. "Oh, Lord," the preacher prayed, "I'm so sorry for skipping services today to come out here and hunt. Please forgive me and grant me just one wish: Please make a Christian out of that bear that's coming at me. Please, Lord!"
That very instant the bear skidded to a halt, fell to its knees, clasped its paws together and began to pray aloud right at the preacher's feet: "Dear God, bless this food I am about to receive . . .
