Shocking video shows Donald Trump discussing his Iran war plans in 1987

Footage has emerged of President Donald Trump warning of the threat posed by Iran's Supreme Leader and America's goals in a war with the nation, 39 years ago.

The video captured an interview with late journalist and television personality Barbara Walters in December 1987, where Trump appeared to predict the current crisis in the Middle East and laid out his war plans if he were president.

At age 41, Trump said: 'The next time Iran attacks this country, go in and grab one of their big oil installations and I mean grab it and keep it and get back your losses because this country has lost plenty because of Iran.'

Trump also dismissed the possibility that Russia, formerly the Soviet Union, would send in troops to defend their allies in Iran, adding that he was more concerned about Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, calling him 'something like nobody's ever seen.'

The real estate mogul's prophetic comments came four decades before the US and Israel would launch a devastating military campaign that has already killed Iran's current supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

'You're going to have a war, and it's going to start in the Middle East,' Trump predicted to Walters during the interview.

The Walters interview on ABC's 20/20 also revealed how the future two-term president had spent thousands on newspaper ads criticizing the US for protecting foreign oil tankers without compensation when Iran was attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Today, oil prices have surged as fighting in the Persian Gulf has spread to the sea, with Iranian drones targeting the Strait of Hormuz, and the Pentagon is once again considering using the US Navy to protect oil shipments headed west.

Shocking how?

It was obvious at the time something needed to be done.

Reagan came closest, until we shot down an Iranian passenger plane.

And all through those decades of consistent, logical thinking, the democRATS and the media could not get enough of him.

He appeared on The View over 18 times, and each time was welcomed.

The only analogue to Iran’s war behavior is Japan WWII.

Complete utter defeat was required to break the Japanese mindset of war and devotion to the Emperor. Entire cities had to be destroyed by atom bombs to defeat the Japanese, along with utter military defeat of their armed forces at great cost.

Japan was occupied after defeat. Americans controlled all aspects of civilian government, judiciary, military and economy policies. There was a gradual handover.

Surrender of Japan was unconditional. That is what is required for Iran.

Iran cannot be allowed to continue the 1979 Ayatollah Constitution. It embodies an Islamist terrorists stance against the USA. That must end entirely.

When the governor of the fortress at Otrar - really a king, since the post was hereditary - manhandled Genghis’s envoys, the Mongol ruler besieged, then put the inhabitants to the sword. What Iran did to the embassy staffers drew Trump’s ire in the early 80s, when he still had a full head of hair. Trump urged punitive air attacks, what he finally unleashed with Epic Fury.

Yep. That’s one thing if you go back and watch clips of things he said in the 1980s. He’s been remarkably consistent on a range of issues for 40 years. The American people knew full well what his views were when we elected him three times.

Nothing Trump does is a knee jerk reaction like the press pretends

He has watched the country and world being destroyed for decades and that’s why he ran. He came in with fixes to implement and that is what he is doing

Yeah when I saw the 1980 video of Trump saying what needed to done to Iran—I realized that the war with Iran was baked into his presidency.

That is, he did not become full of himself because of the take down of Maduro.

Iran was just another line item on his to do list.

Not only has he been consistent, he has been correct. As has been said, a stable genius. I am sure he has made mistakes. Everyone has made mistakes.

Look at his first term. He relied on the advice of political snakes who did everything they could to backstab him and destroy him. It was a tough way to learn the game, but he prevailed.

I find his speaking technique unpleasant. I love the overall results.

The results have been spectacular so far, so successful I have hope the Republic may survive another 50 years! It could happen!

Think baseball and getting ahead of the curve. Trump steps forward to swing before the ball can bend.

The Daily Mail style guide requires that all headlines include the word “shocking” or “bombshell”.

Yeah. In his first term, he was "Putin's puppet". Now apparently, he's "Netanyahu's puppet".
