I blame William Jennings Bryan for the young-earth belief being taught like dogma. A century ago this year (1925) we should have had a smarter Christian advocating the Christian side of the Scopes trial.

Until the 20th century, only a few Christians discussed different beliefs about the age of the earth. And even then, they were mostly respectful to each other (kind of like most discussions about eschatology). After the Scopes trial, young earth creationism became taught as part of the "Us Christians vs worldly scientists" teaching (which I somewhat agree with, since worldly people twist "science" to push their agenda). So, unfortunately, there are some Christians in America who think that an old earth view is heresy.

Science has brought us great wonders...

but it has also created an army of liars who will say anything to protect their government grants and contracts and cushy jobs.

The good news is we now have the ability to research any subject we wish—in depth—without leaving our homes.

Folks who are skilled at research on the web—and want to learn—and find people smarter than they are—have never had it better.
