Alec Penstone, a 100-year-old veteran of World War Two, appeared on Good Morning Britain this week to offer a damning indictment on the state of his country today.
With liberals weaponizing immigration to change the face of Western countries — literally — and the British government fully embracing censorship, arresting people by the dozens over social media posts, it’s fair to say that the Greatest Generation struggles to recognize the world they collectively saved.
Asked what Remembrance Day means to him, Penstone, who served in the Royal Navy, responded with a heart-wrenching message.
“My message is,” he said, “I can see in my mind’s eye those rows and rows of white stones and all the hundreds of my friends who gave their lives, for what? The country of today?”
“No, I’m sorry – but the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result of what it is now,” Penstone added. “What we fought for was our freedom, now it’s a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.”
The United Kingdom passed the Online Safety Act in 2023, which regulates so-called hate speech, harmful content and misinformation — with the government deciding what fits these categories.
Social media users could relate to how the vet feels, with many calling it “heart-wrenching” — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:

No one hit the beaches of Sword, Juno or Gold to make way for Muslim Britain controlled by seedy Fabian Socialists.
I see the comment that if the soldiers could have seen the Britain of today, they wouldn’t have advanced another 40 yards up the beach.
And I see the hordes of greedy foreigners hating America and taking advantage, and I always ask “Are these people going to fight for the country?”. Doubtful.
The boomers spoiled their kids, bought into leftist nonsense, and flushed their own culture down the toilet.
I wonder when the Bobbies show up to arrest him for the post.
It could make some people uncomfortable.
Churchill was great.
But for what?
At least they're still speaking English today so they have that going for them.
How many of them voted for Attlee and Labour after the war?
Not me.
This Boomer joined the military straight out of High School, served 22 years, and loved every minute of it while loving the United States of America.
The ideals put forth in the Declaration of Independence is still our bond to God and one another, and should always be strived for and encouraged to our young.
good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times
The present government has done to the people of Britain what Hitler could not.
You fight for what you believe in at the time of the fight, not 70 years down the road. The future is not ours to see.
Soldiers in 1776 did not foresee the Civil War, those in 1865 did not foresee two wars with Germany and one with Japan. Soldiers in those wars did not foresee the Middle East wars.
Thankfully there are many exceptions such as yourself.
But he’s not talking about wars, he’s talking about the society he fought to preserve.
I think of that disgusting ad from a few years ago where they said our boys landing on Omama Beach were “Antifa”.
The war against Japan was still on when Churchill lost :

Correct, Attlee represented Britain at Potsdam.
To his credit, though, he was very anti-Soviet.
From the Russian leadership’s perspective, that’s exactly how they frame it: losing Ukraine isn’t just a military or strategic defeat—it would be an ideological and civilizational collapse.
In their narrative, Ukraine is a buffer or frontline. If Russia “loses” there, they see it as the West’s cultural and moral influence advancing unopposed into what they consider the Russian sphere, threatening the survival of their traditional values.
All we have to do is to take a look at the UK today. Clearly, Russia is threatened by the encroachment of NATO through Ukraine even though you can argue that they were wrong to invade Ukraine.
