Many people have fantasies about people with EBT. Dripping with jewelry, getting into an Escalade. Lots of people here in Appalachia are using those benefits at the Holler General.

People can make casseroles and soups cheaply.

I tend to think SNAP benefits need to be done away with so healthcare and drugs can get subsidized while fixes are implemented. Effective market force can’t safely be brought to the medical business in mere weeks.

Drug coverage should be separated out. The drug companies should not be able to financially piggyback on the possible need for emergency surgical care. Because federal patents allow drugs to be so extravagantly priced, the federal government is in my opinion going to have to subsidize drug coverage to at least the 300% of FPL level. If you take such a subsidy after age 23, your share-related capital gains and tort winnings based partially or wholly on you probably should be forever subject to a drug subsidy funding tax on them, perhaps initially at the 20% level.

Separating out drug coverage would allow hospital systems to be complete providers of care and they could cut insurance companies out of the care paying picture.

Hospitals should generally be broken into two, so they no longer are local monopolies. The union contracts of each should have to be substantially offset (by two months or as much time as possible) and no union should be allowed to have a contract with both.

If a hospital is too small to be broken into two, it should be converted into a real estate entity renting out space to medically licensed individuals and partnerships of medically licensed persons.

“What do you mean, these leeches sell these EBT cards for cash to buy street drugs and other nefarious things?”

They’ve also got what they call EBT water. In states that require a refundable fee they buy bottled water on their EBT card, pour out the water and return the plastic bottle for the .05 deposit.

The lady ahead of us bought groceries and the total was about $130. My wife and I bought one item. The lady ahead of us looked back at us and I said, “The secret to paying less than $100 at the grocery store is to just buy one item.” We all laughed including the cashier who said, “That’s not fair.”

We used to pay in $20s. Then I brought a $100 bill and received cash back. Now I bring $100 and am prepared to back that up.

Our favorite rotisserie chicken salad at Ingles has a big EBT sticker.

“Letters are being sent out from the Department of Agriculture directing states to pause EBT and SNAP benefits”

Looks like the cards are issued and controlled by the states, using federal money.

While I like the idea behind making some freeloaders ‘feel a bit of pain’ to get Democrats to grow up, I doubt sending out letters to many of the states will have any effect, unless there is some overriding control in DC.

Important lesson here for you Civil War 2 types - it’s best to take a close look at just where the true control of us lies. In most cases, though maybe not here, that would be at the FEDERAL level - meaning that people in DC can make our lives nightmares simply with a few clicks of their computers, or perhaps a phone call to the heads of AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, our banks, etc.

In this case, the feds pour tons of money into the states to fund DEIs via SNAP, but it’s very likely that the feds have no control over the program - so kind of the opposite.

Actually it is not true. These have always continued through shutdowns. This is fear mongering propaganda. This is just like saying that Social Security is going to stop because of the government shutdown. They can’t, there are laws in place that force these to continue to be disbursed no matter what.

I went to a college located in Appalachia in the late ‘70s. I can remember being in the grocery store and seeing people who would use food stamps for their groceries, taking them out to the car, then peeling off some twenties from a roll of cash and buying alcohol and lottery tickets. Gaming the system has been going on for decades.

Thanks for the confirmation, it is just one componet of the uniparty over the decades that puts us in $40,000,000,000,000 of debt in a year or two. In spite of the great, historic things President Trump is doing (and maybe Vance or whoever for awhile) this country is going to crash within a generation.

And exactly why we can’t get rid of RINOs.

I respectfully disagree. The tide is turning. I’m speaking (and praying) restoration and revival into America’s future!

Btw, I can always spot the EBT folks at the grocery store because they are the fat ones with the full carts.

Yep, the carts are literally over flowing, smh and nothing but the best high priced steaks, etc etc somethings the rest of us can't afford.

"It would be different if they were really hurting financially, however many are not as they load up carts of food, much of it junk food and load it into their $70,000 newer cars or trucks."

Hourly Rates: Most tattoo artists charge between $75 to $250 per hour, with an average rate around $120 to $150. (From the net.)

No child should go hungry.

But these aren’t fantasies. I see the folks “working the system” every time I go to the store. Piles of groceries. Then cash they magically have for booze and cigarettes. “Ya gotta work da system, baby.” They brag about it on social media. Make videos. “I just swipe my EBT.” It on YouTube. Go watch.

Perhaps in exchange for saying capping SNAP benefits at $2/day/person, paid in daily so there is no monthly feast & famished cycle, the PPACA might have the original subsidy formula Obamacare the first six months of 2026, then Chuck’s subsidy formula the last six months of 2026.

Then phase Chuck’s formula out one month per subsequent year.

December 2032 would be the last month for Chuck’s formula.

Within a few months of eliminating SNAP, the demand and federal spending for insulin and Ozempic would drop sharply.

Note for $28 (the weekly $2/day amount for two people), one can buy:
two pounds of chicken for ~$5,
four pounds of pasta for ~$4,
seven cans of vegetables for ~$5,
a gallon of milk for ~$3,
two loaves of bread for ~$3,
a box of cereal (or a bag of fruit) for ~$3,
and still have ~$5 left over for say buying
a 10-pound bag of potatoes one week
a bag of sugar and 100 tea bags another week
a pound of butter and two boxes of store brand macaroni & cheese another week
12 eggs and two boxes of cake mix yet another week.

Social Security & Medicare have what is referred to as “permanent funding” (via payroll taxes)...SNAP and welfare (via EBT cards) do not, and can be stopped by a lack of funding.

One thing states could do is to move high school to online.

That would free up at $15,000 to $20,000 a kid per year, or over $60,000 per kid on average.

The $60,000 would allow states to pay for two surgical operations for the kid while young, or much older.

This is exactly what I have noticed too.
The person paying for their groceries with a government card was buying primarily processed food. Items that were high in sugar and fat. Then after paying for their “groceries” they pulled out CASH and went over and bought a carton of cigarettes.

This is NOT just people who are paying with government assistance cards. I have observed this with other FAT/OBESE people paying with a credit card. The items on the checkout belt were NOT fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken and fish.
They were chips, snack foods and boxed processed food.

I like the idea behind making ALL freeload loaders starve until they either find a way to feed themselves or die.

There are differing state rules about who is allowed to get the benefits and the money isnt just a matter of how many citizens that state has to feed. Many of the stories you see around here Im sure are coming from some of the areas where there are significantly higher benefits being paid. There are modifiers like more urban east coast gets more money because things are supposedly more expensive and considerations for the amount of “food deserts” and other such.

I dug around in relation to this a bit in the past. At the time iirc think the highest potential benefit att was $4000 but that was for people in DC, families in the rest of the country would only get a fraction of that often times even if they made less money and/or had more people to feed.
