LOS ANGELES -- Back in Spring Training, when he signed a contract to return to the big leagues for his 18th season, Clayton Kershaw reiterated his desire to retire as a Dodger.

Retirement had crossed the veteran left-hander's mind leading into this year, but after losing much of the prior season to injury, he wanted to go out on his own terms. And there was only one team with whom he wanted to do it.

Had a long career. Don’t know much about him, but I always like to see guys get that one last good year in at the end.

Vocal Christian, good family man, and a generally good example of how sports stars should behave IMHO. He is arguably the best regular season pitcher of all time, and the worst post season choker of all time.

He’s 37 y/o. It’s remarkable that he can still play along with the younger team members, but maybe now is the right time to do something else, for the next phase of life.
Go now, while you still have your health and your spouse.

Their fifth child is on the way.

I no longer follow baseball. And it shows. When I read the title I thought it referred to the great Louisiana fiddle player Doug Kershaw.

Good for them. They have a growing family to tend to.

Good for him! I will never forget Game 5 of the NLDS a few years ago, Dodgers vs Nats in DC. The Dodgers brought him in on short rest as a reliever. After every pitch he threw, the catcher came out to talk with him. Of course we booed and booed, because we knew he was just giving the Kershaw a bit of rest. The next year MLB prescribed the number of mound visits that could be made.

I read that he and NFL QB Matthew Stafford were best friends growing up. Anyway, enjoy your retirement Clayton!

Clayton Kershaw was 13-13 with 1 save in post-season.

Greg Maddux was 11-14 with 1 save in post-season.

They’ll move back to Texas, their true home. He grew up there with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford—they’re still tight.

A great pitcher with a long career who played his entire career with one team. He’ll be wearing a Dodger uniform as he enters the Hall of Fame in a few years.

Clayton Kershaw regular/post season ERA 2.49/4.49
Regular season win-loss is 222-96

It’s not that he was terrible post season, it was just such a far cry from his dominance during the regular season.

He has had a long great career. Not much success in the post-season for whatever reason but he was a regular season workhorse and winner. A Hall of Fame for sure. 222 wins as of today.

All-time legend Kershaw....

All-time legend? He's not Sandy Koufax or Bob Gibson, but he's been pretty damn good.

Rick Ankiel would be a good contender.
