Police-grade pepper spray: good
Bear spray: not so good

I say the latter because in some jurisdictions it is illegal to use bear spray on humans. Same goes with wasp spray. So the bad guy might richly deserve it. But use bear spray in him, and you might find yourself in trouble with a DA. Or with a personal injury lawyer.

So stick with police-grade pepper spray. Fox and Sabre are good brands.
