CA whisky maker is moving some of its operations to US to avoid tariffs. It will be difficult to justify manufacturing products made in Canada because of tariffs but also regulations, labor laws, taxation.
About 40% of Canadian manufacturing output is destined for the US market, so I expect a lot of those companies will move to US.
Sectors most likely to relocate production to the US include automotive and parts (which represent about 15-20% of total Canadian manufacturing output), steel and aluminum (around 5-10%), machinery and electronics (around 10%), aerospace (around 5%), and chemicals/plastics (around 5-10%).
If Mexico is smart, they’ll work with US to divide the spoils of CA manufacturing. Mexico can leverage lower labor costs to pick up some of the construes while US take the higher tech and automated production.
US should go back to individual agreements.
