Need new classes of ships for a new age. The old ways are done. Battleships have some attractive features like armor and at ranges of 20 miles can be destructive but they are so last century. What do I recommend?
1. New form of fast carrier to fly drones. They can be small, maybe use recycled old ones. unmanned air crafts only.
2. A combination Battleship-carrier. An armored monster that can take a beating, armed with rockets, rail guns, lasers and a wing of planes. Filled with Anti-Aircraft weapons.
3. A fleet of new Monitors. Single turret craft with rail guns and armored to fight close to land and hit inland with accuracy. Named after Native American Tribes.
4. Combination Carrier submarines, to carry drones and planes for surprise raids. Named after fish.
5. Large troop transports to carry thousands. Fast and well armed to defend against subs. Lots of troops need to be moved quickly along with supplies.
6. A presidential Yacht—something impressive but also well armed as a warship “Navy One” named USS Liberty. a floating palace to impress leaders and protect them.

One of the thing that makes a battleship a battleship is compartmentalization. That give you watertight integrity, the ability to counter-flood, and the hull strength to hang all that heavy belt armor. Compartmentalization means that you don't have the open spaces below deck for aircraft handling, maintainence and spare storage. No. Battleships make for terrible aircraft carriers. Even the IJN Shinano (a Yamato-class battleship) was considered an auxiliary aircraft carrier -- which is a fancy term for an aircraft taxi for sailing aircraft to within distance of a land-base. Not for fleet battle.
