The United Methodists have been left leaning forever, but veered into lunacy for some 30 years now. I was raised and married in the United Methodist Church, but I vowed never to go back again 30 years ago.
They just keep getting worse.
This is a United Church of Christ, remember Reverend Wright from the Obama error? Same denomination. They stress, their churches are basically independent in a free to believe what they want, however, 99% of them fall down Uber, leftist, rabbit, hole of global warming, LGBTQ, etc.
On paper, I am still a member of a UCC Church. The previous minister was always a liberal, but when it came to Church stuff, for lack of a better term was fairly conservative. Probably five or six years ago, they retired, and the new hire went down the exact same leftist rabbit hole.
To me, all they are now, is a case study and get woke go broke. They rebuilt their main sanctuary/multipurpose room after a fire in 2011 or so. At the time, they built probably 175 inch seat sanctuary, 150 person multipurpose room with accompanying kitchen to support it is wired it for overflow purposes. Of course, there’s numerous other facilities like Sunday, school classrooms, office space, meeting rooms, to support a congregation that large. When I left, they had two Sunday worship services a short to the point one early morning and the “fall” worship service with choir, children’s story, etc. they were probably getting 45 to 50 for the early one and 100 or so for the second service. Now, they only do one worship service. The average is probably 40-50 on a good day. Not surprisingly, financially, they are in horrible shape. The last financial report I saw showed nearly half of their budget being supported by their endowment and that percentage has been slowly creeping up each year. Supposedly, if nothing drastic changes or improves, as of a couple years ago, they estimated they had between 5 to 7 years of cash left.
