“This truancy ends now,” Abbott said.

In response, House Democrats issued a four-word statement: “Come and take it.”

Forty Democrats left the state on Sunday and fled to Illinois so they wouldn’t have to deal with the vote on redistricting.

Wisconsin Democrats also fled to Illinois during Scott Walker's term to try to thwart his reforms. Those Dems were referred to as "Flee Baggers".

I’m wondering if they did this for force Gov.Abbott’s hand.

The outcome should be very interesting - mostly for Abbott.

I’ve never wished anyone have an airplane disaster, but it sure would solve a lot of problems in Texas.

Nothing new. All but one democrats scurried off to New Mexico in 2003 so there wouldn’t be a quorum. They should have been tossed in jail for shutting down government. They are acting like little kids stomping their feet and crying they’re going to hold their breath until they turn blue. Good, try it and be even more foolish.

There's not any "might" in Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's statement on his Texas Governor's webspage. Abbott stated, in part:
"The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance when the House reconvenes at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025. For any member who fails to do so, I will invoke Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382 to remove the missing Democrats from membership in the Texas House... That empowers me to swiftly fill vacancies under Article III, Section 13 of the Texas Constitution....

"Any Democrat who 'solicits, accepts, or agrees to accept' such funds to assist in the violation of legislative duties or for purposes of skipping a vote may have violated bribery laws. See TEX. PENAL CODE § 36.02. The same could be true for any other person who 'offers, confers, or agrees to confer' such funds to fleeing Democrat House members. I will use my full extradition authority to demand the return to Texas of any potential out-of-state felons." [Boldface added]

I posted this back in 2021:

Why aren't they charged with accepting a bribe to withhold their vote?

Someone paid for their private jet. Someone paid for their hotel costs.

Texas House Democrats are guilty of accepting a bribe to withhold their vote under the Texas Constitution, and should have their House seats vacated.

According to the Texas State Constitution:

Article 16 Section 41:

Sec. 41. BRIBERY AND SOLICITATION OR ACCEPTANCE OF BRIBES. Any person who shall, directly or indirectly, offer, give, or promise, any money or thing of value, testimonial, privilege or personal advantage, to any executive or judicial officer or member of the Legislature to influence him in the performance of any of his public or official duties, shall be guilty of bribery, and be punished in such manner as shall be provided by law. And any member of the Legislature or executive or judicial officer who shall solicit, demand or receive, or consent to receive, directly or indirectly, for himself, or for another, from any company, corporation or person, any money, appointment, employment, testimonial, reward, thing of value or employment, or of personal advantage or promise thereof, for his vote or official influence, or for withholding the same, or with any understanding, expressed or implied, that his vote or official action shall be in any way influenced thereby, or who shall solicit, demand and receive any such money or other advantage matter or thing aforesaid for another, as the consideration of his vote or official influence, in consideration of the payment or promise of such money, advantage, matter or thing to another, shall be held guilty of bribery, within the meaning of the Constitution, and shall incur the disabilities provided for said offenses, with a forfeiture of the office they may hold, and such other additional punishment as is or shall be provided by law.

While the seats are vacant, a new quorum can be reached with the sitting House. That's when they can take the vote on election reform.

The Texas Constitution is there for all to see. The question now is whether the Republicans have the nerve to act like Democrats and enforce their own Constitution to kick the fleeing Democrats out of the House that they vacated.

Oh, boy. If this is true...

WTF? The Texas Democrat lawmakers were given a dedicated $40 MILLION JET that costs $15,000 per hour or more to rent. They raised the funds and are having their trip orchestrated by out-of-state actors. Remove them from office and investigate for BRIBERY.

Last time, Beto O'Rourke paid for the whole $600,000 to get the Democrats to withhold their votes.

Who's paying them this time?

In 2011, Wisconsin’s Democratic state senators fled the state and went to Illinois to prevent a vote on Republican Governor Scott Walker’s plan to strip most public workers of their collective bbargaining.

The Democrats’ primary goal was to delay consideration of and ultimately block a bill they viewed as an attack on workers’ rights. By leaving, they hoped to pressure Republicans and Governor Walker to negotiate changes to the bill.

The Democratic senators’ absence prevented the Senate from having the necessary quorum to vote on the legislation for several weeks.

The stalemate eventually ended when Republicans found a procedural way to bypass the Democrats’ boycott and pass the bill, which later became known as Act 10.

The events sparked massive protests at the State Capitol in Madison.

It led to recall elections for state senators and an ultimately unsuccessful recall attempt against Governor Walker.

The legislation itself significantly altered the landscape of labor relations in Wisconsin, limiting public employees’ collective bargaining rights, according to Wikipedia.
