He might be more valuable where he’s working now (helping others get a career going), although he should also be pardoned and paid for what he’s doing.
That piece of irony just jumps out at me. He is imprisoned for making diesel engines run better, so why not take advantage of his skills and have him work in diesel engines as long as he is imprisoned. The Government sure does love free labor1
