Avoiding a MAGA tantrum was totally doable imho.
1. Do nothing—and wait for the MAGA tantrum to start. Let them lead. It could buy you many months.
2. Then release a few files of your choice. Explain the rest are currently under review. That buys many more months.
3. Rinse and repeat.
MAGA tantrums are never avoided.
