The social engineers see to it that their preferred candidate is permitted to enroll in a university which confers an undeserved degree upon the individual. The person is given a position and job title with an enviable salary and a spacious office. Once in position, the diversity hire cannot function and a team of underlings has to cover by performing all of the work attributed to the anointed role model.

Kagan is a politician. I think that sometimes she realizes an argument is dumb but goes along with it for political reasons. Kagan is actually a very shrewd justice. If the left at some point gets a majority on the Supreme Court, she would be a strong candidate for Chief.
