I had the distinct and historical honor of serving in West Berlin in the 1960’s,..for no particular virtue on my part. Each year in June there was an Allied Forces Day Parade....British, French and American. West Berlin was an occupied city and quite severely walled in. Tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, thousands of troops etc up the gills. Naturally, the Germans loved it. By the luck of the draw I was an Air Force participant in the parade and will forever cherish the moment.

Absolutely... My Father was right in the middle of it. 6961st COMM Squadron USAF. Stationed in Chicksands England. He was a Cryptographer for Intelligence spying on the Russians. He made Staff Sargent in four years because of his service. After he got out he was almost invisible to the DoD because “War? What war?”.

Finally! It took 40 posts but finally a full grown American man showed up in this thread to reasonably explain why this is a good idea for America. We used to have parades every 4th of July and I miss them. And for those who have never worn the uniform, please be quiet as we show respect those who have.

I was at USAFSS HQ at Kelly, AFB my 7th and last year of active duty, 1969-1970.

Dad enlisted at the OK Federal Building and was sent to Lackland, then Kelly, then Warren, and then to Chicksands. He really did not like Warren...
