Yeah, somehow they managed to do it in the 1950s and 60s. And they have a alliance with China who is repeated to have some manufacturing capability. Yeah they can build airplanes.

I’m still curious how the West let itself get so flat footed and behind in ability to manufacture artillery shells and tubes. Did no one think we might ever have a qar again where they were needed in quantity?

Yes, and those factories in China just happen to be sitting idle with nothing to make. As America proved in 1942, it wouldn't take much effort to shift production from power tools and toys to bombers and drones. That's some real "5D chess" on America's part!
