Do nothing? Or we could just really wage war instead of using measured response, designed to consume expendable war products and make profit for suppliers.

Put our troops on the border of North and South, and supplied the South with equipment and training. Allow those who supported communism to migrate North.
If we were going to send in the Military like we ended up doing, attack the North all the way to their Northernmost border. KICK THE SHEET out of them. All in or the first paragraph.

It’s a good question with an answer beyond me. The one thing I have come to understand is that North Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh and his successors always intended to rule the entire Indochinese region - Viet Nam, what were defined as Laos and Cambodia, and even hopefully - but never achieved - Thailand. In this they were resolute and dedicated for forty years.
What to do to thwart that other than the destruction of / eradication of the North Vietnamese regime?!
