We have them here in Northern Illinois, they frequent a small lagoon off the Rock River. Magnificent birds. We also have Bald Eagles, Vultures, and even turtle families, along with ducks and Canada Geese. They make my daily walks enjoyable.

It’s senseless to hurt wildlife like that.

I live in east central Illinois so it is mostly hawks, vultures and some blue herons. White Pelicans recently moved east into the Illinois river basin around Peoria. Those are big birds but I haven’t seen one up close. The biggest wild bird I’ve seen in Illinois up close are Sandhill Cranes at a golf course in northern Illinois.

There’s a bald eagle nest near the small town of Big Rock IL. Mrs L and I make sure to look for them on our way to the gun club we belong to. Spotting them is always a thrill.

The club has several good sized ponds on the property. We’ve spotted minks and beavers. Herons frequent them as they’re full of fish. We are also blessed to live not far from a protected breeding area for Sandhill Cranes. There is a large flock of them there.

Magnificent creatures.

I am a hunter myself but I have zero patience for those who break the game laws. And cruelty to them is beyond the pale.

L
