I said it years ago when the US discontinued the space shuttle program. There was no way in hell the US was going to give up on space travel if we didn't already have a means to reliably be able to launch man or machinery into space on a moments notice without the fanfare of a rocket launch.

The reason Obama canceled the space shuttle program was because there were unsolvable maintainability issues with the aging shuttle fleet that gave increasing probabilities of the loss of a shuttle.

Obama did not want to take the risk of one or more shuttle disasters on his watch so he canceled the program
