He has zero legal authority to do that. If he does, Trump can fire them immediately, have the FBI raid their offices, direct his entire executive branch to have zero interaction with them.

A judge trying to do this is literally the same as the judge hiring his own police and sending them out to make arrests and serve warrants.

I believe that the ability of courts to hire Special Prosecutors EXPIRED about 20 or 30 years ago. So I agree, he has no authority to do such.

I think the law does permit Boasberg to appoint a lawyer, but I am curious how he will pay for one. As an older friend role me years ago when I asked him how he came to grips with how to fire someone - he said, it’s easy, you just quite writing them a check. I’m sure any appointed lawyer will be up on crowd funding sites.

Maybe Boasberg’s daughter can swing a few shekels to protect the ego of dear old dad.
