I bet most health issues are self-inflicted:

Obesity

Cardiovascular (not enough exercise)

Diabetes -
Too much sugar

Yup. Lifestyle dysfunction trumps the healthcare system every time. Recently returned from a week in Italy. After mingling with crowds of Italians, not to mention tourists from the Middle East, Japan, and other nations, then going through the Detroit airport, I saw clearly the dramatic difference in obesity among Americans vs Italians and others. No one could miss it.

Too much sugar does not cause diabetes.

Agree. Too much salt. Too much fat. Too much sugar. Too much booze, and to many drugs legal and illegal, and not enough exercise for sure. Hardly anyone cuts their own lawn or weed whacks for themselves. Don’t even get out and shop as much, order everything from Amazon or other online shop. Sit around the tv watching crap, eating nachos and drinking beer or soda. Working from home also, with a fridge full of junk nearby. The influx of illegals who go to the emergency room and don’t pay, or get freebies that we pay for. Hospitals have closed down due to too many illegals. Lots of problems with bad habits and also crooked ins. companies and big pharma. It’s a mess all around.

yup! but you are missing a large part of the scam.

ridiculously over exercising, running, HIIT, Cross-training, etc leads to many chronic pains, tears, joint wearouts, herniated/ruptured discs.

just like ridiculous things done just for fun. sky diving, bungee jump, various things that are not necessary parts of life that can easily go wrong.

I’ve seen too many people who think it’s some sort of badge of honor to get knees, shoulders replaced. just selfish will and pride = screaming muscle tightness to the point of some things got to give.

I’ve had people I know do stupid stuff and cause themselves physical, internal or external issues, even death.

I agree.

The ‘colossal’ health care industry just wants a big farm of sick people, but it’s not a conspiracy let people take very poor care of themselves and be there when they need some fixing up. People (Americans) are generally overweight, sedentary, and make poor lifestyle choices.

It’s not the job of a roofer, painter, or plumber to come and inspect your house to every six months and mitigate any problems that start to crop up. They come when you call them.

Read the labels on processed food. They’ve been trying to kill us for a long time.

On the other hand, some of our “care” sucks.
I had symptoms of blood clot in my left calf and went to the emergency room to get it checked out. They told me it might be a water cyst and not to worry - it never got better so I got a referral to a Vascular place and it turns out I had a severe DVT - it could have killed me if I hadn’t gone elsewhere for a second opinion.

Probably a result of the chemo from acid-induced esophageal cancer.

“I bet most health issues are self-inflicted”

Blame the people? Wonderful.

You obviously have not gone thru the system.

It took me 2 years and nearly a dozen doctors to get legitimate healthcare for a spinal cord/CNS injury. The doctor that worked on it does not take insurance. Cash or check at before treatment. $15K later and I can feel warmth on my R side. ‘Traditional’ healthcare just ran down my insurance, did stupid injections (for a pin pinching a CNS nerve) and, like you, were oblivious to the actual health issue.

It’s all run for profit. They follow cut sheets and flow charts. Doctors are penalized or worse for thinking outside the box, i.e. ‘what’s going on here’ and ‘what will help my patient’.

It’s totally, totally broken.

Next stop is R/T airfare to Taiwan, Thailand or Malaysia for medical treatment. Quicker and cheaper then being used by the US industry FOR THEIR OWN PURPOSES.

There is zero accountability. So the consumer must choose another provider.

I’m sure lots of people become obese because they eat too many sweets to self soothe and don’t have the energy to exercise because they are depressed. There are many things in today’s world that fuels depression and the solution is to throw an SSRI at it because fixing the culture isn’t possible and neither is making people treat each other well, aside from our mental health care services not being up to par.

***Cardiovascular (not enough exercise)***

I was talked into weight lifting back in 1990. I blew a mitral valve and had open heart surgery with a mechanical valve replacement. Now on warfarin. No more exercise for me. “Ah have lu-n-n-ed mah lesson!”

True, but your doctor encourages you to go nuts on carbs which leads to lack of energy to exercise and damages arteries in itself.

When I stopped following my doctors’ advice on diet and stopped taking all the useless prescriptions they were putting me on I stopped needing their services so often.

Stupid doctors with no critical thinking skills or skepticism are big pharma’s frontline salesmen.
