Here’s something FReepers may not know and this article says NOTHING about:
Canada has had a mining contract with Communist Cuba since the Fidel Castro era, and still has one.
Cuban labor paid maybe, maybe a cuban peso a day- mines nickel from large mines in Cuba that have great quantities of ore. Canada pays Cuba directly for the labor cost plus a tipping fee and ships the ore by sea to Canada for processing. The cost to the US in nickel is surcharged to the US. So this story is not quite true.
what, they have cards to play?
I would be quite happy if they stop sending electricity to NY.
So basically what we have here is a politician talking out of his ars.

Trump acts, the others “threaten”. They will all fold, just a matter of time.
Dayum! Maybe he really does want to become the 51st state? Or just a territory?
Cutting power is pretty heartless, especially since winter isn’t over yet, especially in the northern states. The fact that we provide Canada with military protection by virtue of them being our neighbor should be enough to keep power up and running.
Nickel is sold across the world. Ontario sells into the US ‘cause of low transport costs and subsidies the US provides on other things.
F!@#$ ‘em.
Raise tariffs on nickel to 50%.
The unsold electricity is revenue lost forever.
Perhaps the US will be selling electricity to Canada is a few years?
Under the knucklehead leadership of Tampon Tim Walz, Minnesota is on a path to being zero carbon in five years, so that electricity they get from Canada can be replaced by unicorn farts and more forests of windmills.
Ford is supposed the conservative. He is just as anti-American as the Liberals.
We can't exactly starve them out, but maybe cutting off their crack supply would help.
