Washington would not have approved. He was famous for his humility. He not only refused a crown, and a third term, but refused any title more exalted than Mr. President.

The John Adams mini-series, which I assume is based on fact, has a scene in which Adams wants Congress to pass a bill granting the president a fancy title. Adams thinks the people need a great leader to look up to.

Washington later expresses his displeasure at Adams, as Washington regards the proposal as unseemly.

Trump falls far short of Washington, in many ways. But then, so does every other president since Washington.

Wasn't up to Washington. It was up to his supporters.
