The county next to ours, a very rural area, had a volunteer FD. One of the ‘volunteers’ was charged with arson for starting fires so he would get to ‘fight’ them!... From September 2024:

Then there's serial arsonist and murder John Leonard Orr who operated in California. He was a fire captain and arson investigator who is believed to have set nearly 2,000 fires over thirty years and killed at least 4 people in one of those fires.
