The real heart of National Review apparently was Buckley’s sister Priscilla. She was the managing editor during its greatest years and NR’s decline coincided with her retirement.

I subscribed from the late ‘70s to about 1991, and quit when I thought it was becoming just a PR flack for the Bush GOP.
