... U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Saturday announced the largest seizure ever of counterfeit Gibson electric guitars.
Working with U.S. Homeland Security and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, agents recently seized more than 3,000 counterfeit guitars at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest seaport complex.
...
All three agencies will be on hand with Gibson officials Tuesday morning in Carson, just a few miles north of the Port of Los Angeles, to detail the seizure and — in advance of the holiday shopping season — to caution consumers about fraudulence products sold on e-commerce platforms and other sources.
Here is a quick primer video on distinguishing a fake Gibson — often made in China and referred to as “Chibsons”

“My very unpopular opinion is that Gibson should open up a plant in Mexico for their basic, entry-level models.”
Go to Mexico yourself. America doesn’t need any more free traitors.
Thanks. More of a fender guy. I do have an epiphone. But I bought in 1965. Has the blue Kalamazoo sticker.
It’s really easy to tell the Chinese fakes from real Gibsons.
The Chinese fakes have flawless finishes without any blemishes or tooling marks.
They sell every single Made in USA instrument that their Nashville plant turns out.

We here in Bozeman, MT are very proud of ALL of the acoustic Gibson guitars produced here including 100% of the Les Paul acoustic guitars created for world distribution.
PM me if you would like a factory tour.
It is pretty stupid now a days to try to bring in a fake Gibson or anything from China with the real ones name on it. China guitars have been sold under their own names for years now and some of them are very, very, nice and cost a fraction of what a name brand one goes for.

Sometimes, maybe, but they also use crappy Asian woods, the frets and fret dressing suck and the electronics are garbage. And no, you can’t just swap the pickups ant the pots out and say the Chibson sounds just as good as a real Gibson. Bull.
Chibsons, and Epiphones are just bad copies of USA made Gibson guitars.
(flame suit engaged).
No, they should be utterly destroyed. Gibson has a right to protect their brand integrity.
At the same time Obongo’s goons left Martin alone who using the same wood. The difference was Gibson had made some GOP contributions and Martin’s went to rats. It was the same nasty BS pulled with GM dealers.
Nah, keep the Chinese Epiphone factory open. That way we can easily identify the cheap-ass guitar players.
Chibsons.
Crush them.
My man. Still a proud owner of 67 ES-345 l bought as a very young lad. And early 2 early 50’s acoustics
“U.S. customs officers seize 3,000 counterfeit Gibson guitars”
well, as long as they aren’t made with protected wood species, i don’t see the problem ...
Bro, it's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard.
Anyways, I'm sure I've spent far more on American-made Gibson guitars than you ever will.
Now off to enjoy some American-made Jim Beam cut with Mexican Coca Cola, as it should be.
This should be a hanging offense.

i inherited a 1956 fender stratocaster with the original case...
Q: Why couldn’t the vampire see his reflection in the mirror?
A: Because it was made in China.
I really want a 345!
I've been looking at pulling the trigger on a proper Gibson ES guitar. I used to own a Korean Epiphone ES-335 but it was a piece of crap with a warped neck so I can't judge the instrument by that one (it did have some really awesome Samsung humbucker pickups on it though that sounded incredible).
I'd love a ES-355 without a Bigsby but they're not cheap, even by Gibson pricing. 345s are really cool (also not cheap but surprisingly priced about the same as a 335 even though they're a bit nicer).
We call them “Chibson” for obvious reasons. Les Paul’s have become obscenely expensive for reasons I can’t fathom. And Gibson refuses to make them with a neck volute despite the fact that the neck is fragile in that area. Ed Roman used to roast Gibson online and I think Gibson sued him for it.
Gibson.. awesome guitars!!
You did not address the fish and wildlife raid- guns drawn. You remember that? Friends were threatened a gunpoint by junior G-men about the WOOD they were shaping to make real American made guitars.
What happened to that wood? one wonders. This chink raid is meaningless in comparison to that raid— in Nashville. Lot of people here recall it and the the aftermath and more importantly the stupid globalist crap that drove it- obamaumao.
Additional events like seizing friend’s instruments by Customs when returning to the US (Brazilian Rosewood and true ebony wood components). They haven’t gotten the instruments back yet— maybe they are in the same warehouse as the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Somebody has them— and frankly, has sold them. Seriously.
Ive had a lot of both Gibsons and Fenders over the years, also Deans, Martins, Epiphones, and my very FIRST Guitar, a gigantic Harmony Arch-Top. My favorite was a 60’s era Gibson SG Custom with three gold-plated humbuckers and a Bixby Tail piece.
Had to sell it to pay the rent.
Now I have a Dean Acoustic/Electric,a Martin Acoustic/Electric, a Schecter Diamond Bass, and a little Fender Squire Strat that I got for free. :-)
