FCC’s Brendan Carr Launches New Big Tech-NewsGuard Probe, Cites MRC Study
MRC Free Speech America ^ | 11/15/2024 | Joseph Vazquez

Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr utilized Media Research Center analysis to put Big Tech and so-called media ratings firm NewsGuard on notice.

Carr sent a letter Wednesday to the respective CEOs of Google, Microsoft, Meta and Apple accusing them of “improper conduct” in silencing Americans’ exercising free speech on political, religious and scientific issues. Carr specifically ordered these tech giants to acquiesce to surrendering any documents related to their work with “the Orwellian named NewsGuard” given its history of targeting right-leaning websites by bullying their advertisers.

Moreover, Carr excoriated the CEOs for participating in “a censorship cartel that included not only technology and social media companies but advertising, marketing, and so-called ‘fact checking’ organizations as well as the Biden-Harris Administration itself” to suppress viewpoints, harm websites’ profitability and delist them by smearing them as “high risk” to advertisers.

Normally I'd agree on nuking the FCC or at least part of it.

But now it looks like somebody in the FCC is seeing the writing on the wall and actually doing the job.

The federal government has no constitutional authority to command and control communications in America.

Period.

Remember, the Constitution is the ONLY source of specific enumerated delegation of power and authority to the feds.

NUKE THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL FCC!!!!

Then what entity would organize what other entities used what frequencies for what?

Somebody has to.

I'm all for getting rid of as much government as possible, how is this to otherwise to be done?

The marketplace free from gov't interference.

It's either the heavy hand of gov't or it's freedom in action - the free market.

I'll take the free market anytime.

The free market economy of the 1800's is what took America from a bunch of rag-tag colonies out of the 1700's and into the 1900's as the greatest nation in the world. Gov't didn't do that. A free people and free society did that.

The Free Constitutional Republic of the USA!

I guess you've never had much to do with radio communications. It would be a dangerous mess.

radio communications...would be a dangerous mess.

That's the conventional wisdom. Overreaching gov't will "fix" and settle things.

But in fact history shows us that meddling gov't unsettles things. Why do people still trust in man and his gov't which thinks only about its own interests, growth, and income through taxes? Because it is visible. You can see the FCC and gov't agencies.

What about the far superior free market economy with its voluntary buyers and sellers, what Adam Smith called "The Wealth of Nations"? Well, you can't see the free market economy with its "invisible hand" that creates wealth. That is why it takes FAITH to maintain FREEDOM.

Because of the self interest (NOT "greed" as the pro-gov't Left calls it) in the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the supply and demand and open competition of free market, the marketplace itself would eventually settle on the most effective, lowest cost frequencies, protocol, and method of communications.

Good example is the internet. What gov't agency is needed to control it? NONE!!! The internet does fine without gov't interference.

What about healthcare? Until the 1950's and 60's. America had the greatest healthcare system in the world - the marketplace directly between patients and doctors without gov't interference.

LESS GOV'T, MORE PROSPERITY!
