Speaking of which, I have a question: If something happens to a President Elect prior to being sworn in, what happens? Does Vance become President Elect?

If so, the wise choice of Vance as running mate may be what saves Trump’s life, since I doubt the DS wants Vance any more than it wants Trump. Vance really seems like he gets Trump’s America First agenda.
