I like the way you think. We really ought to use Alinsky’s “rules for radicals” more often to our advantage.

As a general rule I have goal for their ride home....and it can go two ways.

The first way, is them riding home rip roaring mad, yelling an complaining about me and my politics. This is the less desirable endstate...but still ok...because it reasserts the fact that if they come at me or anyone for that matter with their politics in a family gathering scenario...I will ruin their day.

The second and better endstate, is that me engaging them directly causes them to have a quite ride home. That means they are thinking about what i said the them. This in when minds are changed and things outside of their echo chamber are considered.
