One side effect of the producers is that it marked the end of the public taking the Hippies seriously. After Dick Shawn performed his "Love Power" bit people started laughing AT the hippies and very quickly it was embarrassing to admit to be a hippy.
Did you see him in Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World as Ethel Merman's beach bum son Sylvester? He was hilarious.
