I think it’s unlikely that any leak came from the sheriff’s office. Possible, but not likely. Anything the local sheriff is told about President Trump’s whereabouts would come from the Secret Service anyway, and it’s much more likely that a conspiracy of this sophistication would have been planned by the Feds rather than a local sheriff. He would have had to have made prior contact with this Routh guy who’s not from Florida or else with whoever Routh’s handler is. More likely, the same Secret Service who set Trump up in Butler, PA were responsible for this as well.
And in relation to the decision to not give Trump the same level of Secret Service protection he would get as a sitting President, that wouldn’t be a local decision. That would be a decision made by the Secret Service. I have yet to hear any evidence that the sheriff refused a request from the Secret Service to have the perimeter covered.
The sheriff’s office is 225 feet from the golf course. Of course he could make a quick call and get rid of the offensive Orange man.
