Holodecks not only produced animated images like holograms but gave them material form. There is no manipulation of physics that I know of that can do that. Even more than transporters, holodecks were a way on Star Trek to facilitate story telling, not projections of plausible scientific advances.

absurd premise??The premise is absurd only insofar as the existence of such "holosuites" would rock the foundations of our society far more than portrayed in the series.
The series actually downplayed the effect they would have on human society.
James Darren was a class act.
