RIP...I remember him from TJ Hooker show...From 1980s...
Heather Locklear is 62 years old now...James Darren was old enough to be her father...I did not realize that back in the 1980s...

Holodecks not only produced animated images like holograms but gave them material form. There is no manipulation of physics that I know of that can do that. Even more than transporters, holodecks were a way on Star Trek to facilitate story telling, not projections of plausible scientific advances.

I have seen Jim Moret on TV...I had no idea that his father was James Darren...

absurd premise??The premise is absurd only insofar as the existence of such "holosuites" would rock the foundations of our society far more than portrayed in the series.
The series actually downplayed the effect they would have on human society.
James Darren was a class act.

Please explain the physics and science that would make holodecks and holosuites possible. I just don’t seem them as remotely plausible. At best, they are contrivances that expand the scope of story telling — giving us characters like Vic Damone as played by James Darren.

Actor Rod Taylor’s daughter was the former CNN financial reporter, Felicia Taylor.

Darren, born James Ercolani, was born in Philadelphia in 1936. His parents were Italian immigrants, and he spent more time getting into trouble outside school then hitting the books.

In early TNG episodes, they explain the holodeck as working on Einstein’s principle of converting energy to matter. In one episode, Data explained distance in the holodeck as being simulated by the computer rendering images onto the walls. In an early VOY episode, the holographic doctor explains that a force field around his body enables him to interact physically with his patients.
So it still requires a lot of imagination. But it sounds like the show creators did their best to make the holodeck believable.

I didn’t know it was him, either. I’ll have to track some old shows now.

I used to get them mixed up. So handsome. And he looked like a nice person.

Probably not holosuites, but I can see how it might be possible to create VR interfaces which stimulate your entire nervous system, giving the user the sense of physicality. This seems a much more likely development.

I’d forgotten that one. He was the kid brother of the woman. She slapped him for not writing. Great flick.
