Former President Trump tells NBC News that if he’s re-elected, his administration would not only protect access to IVF, but would have either the government or insurance companies cover the cost of it.
Selective fetal reduction (SFR) is a procedure that’s relatively rare, representing 0.07% of all abortions in a study of multiple pregnancies in England and Wales between 2009 and 2018.
Note that selective reductions are performed in natural pregnancies with multiple fetuses not only in IVF pregnancies. It’s a choice in either case, some parents would never consider selective reduction others like women who have abortions do.
It’s in the headline of the article.
Of course IVF increases the birth rate 2.5% of pregnancies are due to IVF in the most recent year studies 2022.
not a good idea Donald.
Liberals do not control education, leftists do. But how is that going to change? How does IVF improve education?
Bingo.
Thanks for clarifying IMO that was the usual Trump showmanship loose statement to get people thinking.
As I found when I looked tonight 16 states already mandate coverage of IVF. Expanding that to the other states would be the natural way to accomplish making the technique available to infertile couples. Sharing the risk is how insurances work.
My rough calculations suggested a cost of ~$30/family policy. Since insurance companies negotiate discounts the treatment would cost them much less than the current cost as a private payor so the increase in the policy for a family policy covering a reproductive age female policy would be less.
Trump could sweeten the deal for insurances by cutting unnecessary paperwork or some other action that decreases their cost a bit.
Sixteen states already require insurances to cover IVF if they cover pregnancies. Each states dictates what coverage must be included in policies to allow an insurance company to offer policies in that state.
Pretty simple to encourage that coverage to be offered in other states. No federal dollars, no federal mandate.
Should Merrick Garand raid and close down any groups/churches who disagree with the government on this, or other policies?
Sponsored IVF can help middle class couples increase their families. And, yes, you’re correct that education has become the playground of leftists, not liberals.
You are upset. I understand but having insurance cover procedures is not forcing them on anyone.
I agree completely the Gov’t should not mandate or cover these procedures or medical care in general.
The Government is the payor for medicare & medicaid which is unfortunate. I would prefer each state to form a safety net as a partnership with insurance companies but that is not in the cards right now. A ton of money would be saved by getting the Government out of healthcare.
He spoke about getting healh insurance to cover the procedure.
Then if a state does it or a company does that’s one thing. But not more federal gubmint.
Agreed. 16 states already do and that is the right path.
I assure you, money does not magically appear. And a HUGE portion of insurance is covered by the government, state, and especially federal. Huge.
Plus, IVF costs $40k - $80k, sometimes more. You think insurance companies can just magically find this money. You want necessary services to be taken away from some people, and given to others?
Why am I upset? That's just a leftist tactic, when they can't respond to logic.
I understand but having insurance cover procedures is not forcing them on anyone.
Yes, it is. You are saying organizations churches who don't agree with it, should be forced to do it. For example, a Catholic school or hospital should be forced BY THE GOVERNMENT to provide IVF to everyone it covers. The First Amendment doesn't apply to Catholics, or any other group that disagrees with the government.
I agree completely the Gov’t should not mandate or cover these procedures or medical care in general.
But that's exactly what you are saying. You are probably the most anti-libertarian poster I've seen on FR.
“And therefore Fedzilla should step in and mandate that they get IVF for free?”
I’m a conservative. I think the fedgov should only be doing things with our taxpayer $$$ like ensuring our national security. They have failed miserably at that one task. All else should be left up to the individual states (ie states’ rights).
