The draft had been running continuously for decades before JFK sent the 16,000 troops to Vietnam, at the peak of the Vietnam War we had just over 500,000 men in Vietnam and about 3 million men outside of Vietnam, mostly focused on Russia.
Perhaps to regain “war footing” today we massively increase our defense outlays, half for conventional things such as 155 mm artillery shells, manpads, Stingers, javelin, TOWs,, tanks, F-15s, Destroyers, and the other half on Drones of all types.
Would it benefit to again bring the remaining Iowa-Class battleships out as cruise missile and 16 inch guns platforms?
