This is stupid grandstanding. Under what logic does a representative of not even the state where the crime occurred have the right to demand to view a body? The body once processed by the coroner belongs to the family period full stop. If they chose to cremate that’s their private family matter. Once the coroner was.satisfied his autopsy was done he had not only the right but the moral duty to return the remains to the family.

Moral duty? The man was a murderer.

His remains should have been flung on his parents as they sat there on their living room couch watching TV. Let them think about who they raised and armed.
