At the moment it appears to be going well. Long term we will see.
Hard to tell what this will accomplish.
I saw it as a choice. Continue to see both sides getting ground up in the current lines in Ukraine where the defenders are slowly losing ground with little chance of an effective counterattack against well dug in aggressors, OR, attempt what they have done and get troops on the move, which are then somewhat “easier” to engage.
Staying the course on the previous trajectory is not favorable for Ukraine, so they seem to be trying to give themselves some chance at success in some fashion, other than the same old meat grinder.
Just moving the meat grinder elsewhere, which gives them a chance to pick off columns on the move and fighting defenders that aren’t so well dug in.
Don’t know what their aim is, but it’s a better situation than we saw up to August.
