I don’t think the Pentagon can rescind a Medal Of Honor. This medal, if I am not mistaken, is a Congressional act. For this to happen Congress must do it.

I don’t think they care. They’ll do what they want to do.

The 27th Maine was awarded 864 Medals of honor in a single day in 1863 but they were removed 53 years later.

“On May 22, 1863, ninety-six men performed actions for which they received the Medal of Honor at Vicksburg, Mississippi. In all, at Vicksburg 120 Medals of Honor were awarded. The most medals awarded in a single day, however, are attributed to June 30, 1863. Three-hundred members of the 27th Maine agreed to remain on duty to guard Washington, DC for four additional days after their enlistment ended. Nevertheless, the entire regiment of 864 men was awarded the honor as a result of a typographical error. The government later recalled all medals given to the 27th Maine following a 1916 review of the case.”

Perhaps they should check those given out like candy at Veracruz, in 1914. 63 Medals of Honor were received for actions during the occupation.

Still waiting for someone to explain what Admiral Kidd did to get the Medal. Standing on the bridge during a battle comes with the job. Certainly not the only naval officer to die in battle in World War II.

"Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has directed the Defense Department to review the Medals of Honor awarded to approximately 20 soldiers for their actions during the December 1890 engagement at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota, to ensure no awardees were recognized for conduct inconsistent with the nation’s highest military honor."

Austin continues to demonstrate an odd sense of priorities. Was he another oBiden DEI hire?

R D d B. It was probably the Library of Congress updating their databases. Still there, but now you re-research the specific link. Regarding the Army Officer link I posted above. It has several sections, one that links to interesting first hand written accounts by A Swede and an Englishman serving in the 7th Cav at Wounded Knee. Very different perspective and a lot more involved than the "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee" version and matching your Little Bat version.

The Omaha Bee: Here is a book based on the Omaha Bee accounts of Wounded Knee. (You may already be aware of this book, but others may not.)

Sting of the Bee: A Day-By-Day Account of Wounded Knee And The Sioux Outbreak of 1890--1891 as Recorded in The Omaha Bee Paperback – April 19, 2016

Sting of the Bee: A Day-By-Day Account of Wounded Knee

by Charles H. Cressey (Author), Col. Samuel L. Russell

"Wounded Knee, as it was first reported, and, as you've never read it. A sensational contemporary view of the events surrounding the Sioux outbreak of 1890 and 1891 that violently climaxed at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. These articles from the Omaha Bee represent some of the most widely read and published correspondence of that sanguinary winter. Until now, Will Cressey’s on-scene dispatches have never appeared under a single cover. Step back 125 years into the past and experience the exhilaration and anguish that was the sting of the Bee. The language of the day was harsh and reflects the strong views that many Americans held of the native tribes following more than two and a half centuries of persistent conflict with the indigenous communities that first occupied the continent....snip...."

If they are just getting started with the review, Trump maybe in office before the review is complete and President Trump can veto the rescinding of the medals.

> Twenty-five U.S. soldiers were also killed in the engagement.

a key fact commonly ignored by the popular narrative.

I don’t think people in modern times understand *precisely why* the Indian wars were mostly a “war to the knife”.

Even if the mission was justified beyond any question, there was always a heap of criticism over the award of 20 Medals of Honor in such a limited military engagement.

Alberta, you're usually pretty sharp, but you're way off on this one. Rescinding the medals of soldiers from 130 years ago to make a political point is a despicable act and a form of betrayal a country should never commit. Leave the dead alone.
