A couple of very weak replacement candidates from the Republican party who would be guaranteed to lose in the general election because of factional infighting, was the basic and obvious plan.
I suppose that Kamala Harris was always planned as a successor to Joe Biden when he finally expired. Then they discovered she was uncooperative and started looking around for replacements.
Looks like something has changed with Kamala Harris. She is getting fulsome endorsements from people who absolutely hated her before. Perhaps she has assured the cabal that she will follow their directions. The official party line has just changed.
