Thomas Jefferson recognized Islam as a mortal threat to America given the language of the First Amendment.

Islam is a political system, not only a religion. Its adherents have no intent of abiding by, much less joining, "We the People," in the social contract that is the Constitution. They are not parties to that social contract and are therefore undeserving of its protections, upon which they rely to bring about its demise.
