Why is a sports network commenting on elections, other than to the Hall of Fame? Is electoral politics considered a sport today?

IMHO, many sports commentators look up to "news" commentators and want to join them in the "big leagues" of reporting, seeing sports reporting as minor leagues. Plus, with ESPN's history, Stephen A might be trying to be the next Keith Olbermann: whom many believe is the #1 reason ESPN got into political commentating and he went on to do "reporting" at a political "news" network.
