In a way the Left is channeling our early Pilgrim founders. They were the most intolerant people around. Fun must be expelled in their new utopia. They had religion but it was a narrow form of the Christian message. Look at the Salem witch trials as an example.
The Russians have a saying, “Scratch a Russian, find a peasant underneath.” But I always wonder that if you scratch an American? What is at our core? I came to the conclusion that its a Pilgrim, dressed in black and white, buckle shoes, a blunderbuss in one hand and a Bible in the other, maybe a dead turkey in his belt. He is cocksure of himself and has all the answers. If you disagree with him—well that’s what the blunderbuss is for. Intolerance is also part of our pioneer past.
