I partially disagree with Hindraker:

That he has only been in the Senate for two years might be a saving grace: Maybe in two years, “The Big Club That WE Ain’t In.” hasn’t been able to completely corrupt him.

I’ve long held a policy of not liking to vote for Senators, because after a while, even the best of them, after they have been in the Senate they become like Frat Bros, who love their least liked Fraternity Brother more than they do their own most loved outsider. Even after they are out of the Senate, they will lie, cheat steal, and some of them even willing to kill to protect another ‘club member’.

In my old life, I had been friends with two U.S. Senators, Both of them were great, honest and honorable guys: “Mister Smiths” before they went to D.C. But by their second campaign, they had been corrupted and no longer much cared about the folks back home. And beyond my personal experience, you can see it with nearly every other Senator in the last many decades.

I recall reading many years ago that Senators make terrible presidents because they are one of a hundred and do not exhibit leadership. Whereas Governors have executive leadership skills and experience needed in the White House.

By far, the worst Senator to become POTUS was Obama. No other Senator comes close.
