And Xi is old. Once he dies, China may implode - they have no one in place to continue the regime

Wrong. China like Russia is run by clans or ruling families. When Xi goes, another one from the families will pop up. That how it works - there is no such thing in China as a strongman from no where creating a regime.
Who rules next is just about which of the 7 families wins the internal struggle and who they push forward to lead. Any rebellion by the people will be put down with extreme prejudice, no matter how many they have to kill.

30-40,000 is not a release valve for 1.4 billion. Its a minor leak by osmosis.
They can’t be too obvious, at least at first.
I know China’s method of taking over areas. They flood an area with bodies and declare that area as theirs. They could take over 1/4 of the US easily enough without firing a shot and our politics might not act.
