Land=position=power
Taiwan would give China a chokehold on East Asian westbound trade. Because of merchant ship routing, effectively all seaborne trade.
This will let it dictate to Japan and South Korea, and others too. China will demand their investment, tech, global markets.
But Taiwan was nothing until capitalism turned it into what it is today.
They simply want to take what capitalism built.
