Am I the only one who keeps thinking of that old Star Trek episode “Patterns of Force” (the one with the Space Nazis)? The “Fuhrer” was a heavily drugged old man who was propped up as a figurehead with the actual dictator running things behind the scenes.

The current situation also reminds me an old Mission Impossible episode where Martin Landau replaced a fake Martin Bormann ruling a neo Nazi cell.
