As I understand the article, their problem is that the bums are not trespassing on the victims’ property but are camping in the adjacent woods. If so, the real culptit is the state law allowing this.
A responsible state authority would seize kids from such incompetent parents. How is this unlike locking a toddler in a hot car?

The Left loves euphemisms. They make it easier to obfuscate, manipulate, and hide truth, and the Left hates nothing as much as it hates truth.

This is absolutely the fault of the government.
As for the use of deadly force against the bums, yes if their house is breached. But playing Rambo out in the woods will not end well. In the movies, Rambo always wins. But not in real life.

True — got confused about where the victims “abode” ended. Even so, that family would need the help of trusted and armed neighbors to protect itself against a gang of squatters, some of whom might be armed. Nowadays, support groups like that are lacking. Property owners in rural area, especially if they are urban transplants, are isolated and on their own.
Proof we need a Thompson SMG with a 100 round magazine to drive varmints off the property.

Seeing how armed combat assault against people NOT on one's property is kinda illegal in all fifty states, it kinda does make all the difference in the world.
