New York City Public Schools, the nation’s largest school district, is planning to prohibit cellphone use during the school day. This major policy shift comes in response to growing concern about youth mental health and the impact of smartphones on children. The ban will affect approximately 915,000 students. While students will still be allowed to bring their devices to school, they will be off-limits during school hours. This move represents a significant departure from current practice, where individual school principals set their own cellphone policies. Additionally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul plans to propose legislation that would prohibit smartphones in schools statewide.

This comes a couple of days after Hochul/Adams proposed a ban on face masks. Maybe they are growing a brain.

Agreed—teachers should not have to deal with petty enforcement.

after a girl was ambushed and beaten by a male student who claimed to be female. That assault was captured on video by many cell phones. I proudly helped make that video go viral. That video led to the resignation of the superintendent.
The ability for our children to document abuse and curriculum and call for help from school is an imperative security measure that should be determined by parents, not the school boards who are defending the policies putting our children at risk while at school.
