A primer for the coming Bash/Tapper debate
Flopping Aces ^ | 06-25-24 | DrJohn

Posted on 06/25/2024 6:51:17 AM PDT by Starman417

I could summarize this post easily in a short sentence- the fix is in.

In three days, Donald Trump and Joe Biden will participate in a debate. It’s been engineered to favor Biden. They get to sit, have to remain quiet while the other speaks and will have the mics shut off if they run over time. Remember that one- it’s going to be used to cut Trump off early and often. They get potty breaks. One of the participants needs it more than the other.

Biden cannot stand for two hours and chew gum, let alone sound coherent. He really can’t even stand for two hours. But CNN has already given us a glimpse of what’s to come. And that glimpse tell us that this debate is not really about Trump and Biden. It’s about Bash and Tapper.

CNN’s Kasie Hunt provided that clue when she cut off Karoline Leavitt part way into an interview.

Hunt asked Leavitt how Trump is going to handle the debate differently compared to the 2020 election.

“President Trump knows what he wants to say, and he’s going to relay his vision to the American people to make this country strong, safe, secure and wealthy again. He’s been doing that across this great nation to all corners of this country,” Leavitt responded. “And that’s why President Trump is knowingly going into a hostile environment on this very network, on CNN, with debate moderators who have made their opinions about him very well known over the past eight years and their biased coverage of him.”

Hunt said her colleagues, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, are professionals and interview Republican and Democratic newsmakers.

In response, Leavitt said moderator Jake Tapper had compared Trump to Adolf Hitler.

“Well, first of all, it takes about five minutes to Google Jake Tapper, Donald Trump to see that Jake Tapper has,” Leavitt said before Hunt jumped in and told her she would end the interview if she continued attacking her CNN colleagues.

“Ma’am, we’re going to stop this interview if you’re going to keep attacking my colleagues,” she said.

Leavitt kept speaking and Hunt ended the interview.

Leavitt touched a nerve in Hunt, but Leavitt has a point- Tapper has quite the history of savaging Trump as Tapper did indeed compare Trump to Hitler.
Tapper, the network’s lead Washington anchor, has called the 45th president a “desperate electoral loser” in the past, suggested Trump spread “Russian propaganda” — and has said that if re-elected, the former president will try to “kill democracy.

“He did try to kill democracy once, and he’s going to try to do it again,” Tapper said on air in December 2021. “But this time with a little help from his friends.”

Tapper also has compared Trump’s language about “poisoning the blood of our country” to Hitler’s manifesto “Mein Kampf,” and in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riots, suggested that Trump incited a “terrorist attack” on America.

Watch for yourself

Tapper is also currently being sued for defamation.

The court’s decision succinctly summarized the background of the case: “On November 11, 2021, CNN’s ‘The Lead with Jake Tapper’ aired a video segment by reporter Alex Marquardt about Afghans attempting to flee the Taliban via private evacuation operators like Young. Over the next few days, Marquardt’s reporting was republished on another CNN program, disseminated on Facebook and Twitter, and repackaged into a digital article on CNN’s website.”

Young sued CNN for defamation and trade libel, arguing his reputation was damaged by the news station’s coverage. “Specifically, Young alleged CNN repeatedly accused him of operating in a ”black market” and mischaracterized his work as exploitative because he charged “exorbitant” fees Afghan citizens could not pay. Young claimed he was particularly harmed because he was the only private evacuator profiled in the reporting,” the decision reads.

The public is rather dubious about the debate hosts and their network. Only 45% have a favorable view of CNN, only 30% view Tapper favorably and only 25% have much regard for the appropriately named Bash.

Bash is no better. Here she is complaining that Trump was allowed to remain on the ballot.

That’s not all

Bash, also CNN’s host of “Inside Politics,” has made sniping remarks targeting Trump, too.

She has argued that “unfortunately for America,” the US Supreme Court decided to keep Trump on the Colorado ballot and suggested that the former president incited “war” domestically during his first term.

“Maybe he didn’t start any new wars abroad, but he completely incited battle after battle and even, I would say, war domestically,” Bash said in January 2021 in response to Trump’s White House farewell video.

Bash also criticized the first Trump-Biden 2020 presidential debate for being a “s–t show” because of the former president.

She argued that the debate was a “bad reality TV show” and that Trump “took it too far” with his aggression during the match-up.

Followed by this amusing little tidbit:
A CNN spokesperson told The Post that there is “no two people better equipped” than Tapper and Bash to moderate the debate.
Well, yeah, I guess. No two people outside the Biden campaign are better equipped to aid Biden.

“Trump is right to ask for a drug test.”

Everybody with a ‘brain’ knows Biden is being drugged to the max.

Hopefully, most doctors caring for the demented elderly of the USA know the proper drug cocktails.

I will not judge the CNN moderators until I see what they do. It is a real challenge for them. If they go too far anti-Trump, they will be seen as partisan hacks and discounted. This will give Trump a win and conform what he as said about fake news. If they appear too soft on Biden, they will also be seen as partisan hacks and discounted—a blow for CNN. If Biden stumbles and they try to help him, this too will be seen as partisan and give the win to Trump. If they are too soft on Trump, or let his “lies” stand, they will be attacked by the left! They have a rough row to hoe. They can not win. Biden must just appear alive and able to answer soft questions and not fall over, ramble or freeze up. The MSM will paint him as the best debater since Lincoln. Its really a debate That will test the Media and not the people running for office.

There I no downside for Trump because not matter what happens, his supporters are steadfast. The question is how much can he gain?

“who I’m sure already has the questions in hand and has spent days rehearsing”

I am not sure they have to provide the questions in advance. They are all family on the same team with the same ideology. It is fairly predictable what themes and topics will be covered.

The Biden team will just launch into their stock answers without any worries that CNN will try to pin down Biden on specifics. CNN has their back.

I’m not sure this is going to be a disadvantage to Trump this time.

The issue is their CNN hosts’ bias—I don’t think they’ll be able to contain it. And just like the ridiculous indictments against Trump, this bias will be part of people’s perception of the debate in general.

It will “prove” to the viewers who don’t have TDS that the media is obviously against Trump and for Biden. Just like the indictments did.

We can argue that the debate is a trap for Trump, but it also a trap for these media darlings and the proof will be in the as it happens—viewing pudding.

When it’s Trump’s turn to speak, he needs to tell the moderators to unmute Biden’s mic, otherwise, Biden is just going to give a series of scripted responses to questions, without ever being challenged. The only way for the sort of back and forth that’s needed to expose Biden is for Trump to use his 90 seconds for that purpose. In fact, at the beginning of the debate, Trump should say to the moderators that he’s giving them permission to unmute Biden through-out the entire debate. It will show Trump to be the bigger man and it will also provide Trump with the opportunity to thwart CNN’s plan and actually have a back and forth between himself and Biden. If Trump has a chance to have a dialogue with Biden and actually ask him questions, Biden will look bad and Trump will come out on top.

“Trump should demand Tucker Carlson be the next moderator.”

Some say that Carlson is “anti-Trump.” ( ????? )

Is he? I do not know because I haven’t listened to him in a long time.

CNN is offering other networks a free simulcast of the debate with one main stipulation: The network’s on-air watermark must remain on screen. Fox News, ABC, NBC and C-SPAN have all agreed to CNN’s terms and will carry the broadcast.

I refuse to watch CNN for any reason.

It is like watching North Korean TV.

It is hazardous to your mind.

It is still supporting CNN—a hard no for me.

My boycott is forever.

They are a toxic trash network.

That’s right. It’s not healthy.

I’m going on 74 and I’ve learned to minimize all the news if possible and I feel better for it.

That’s a good point. I think he has more to gain than Biden does.

There are a few pitfalls he needs to be aware of. If he shifts on the need to end the Ukraine war or starts talking about defeating Russia, he will lose A LOT of people. Not because Joe is better, but because it will not feel ethical to those people to vote for him.

Why can’t OAN (One America News) host a debate, or Right Side Broadcasting?

They could technically, but can you imagine the RATs agreeing to that?

I can’t see how these fake news debates or any of the fake news propaganda for that matter is going to change anything.

Anyone who regularly watches CNN or MSNBC, and believes what they are being told about Trump is the truth - will continue to believe President Trump is the Devil - and the debates will just confirm that view.

Anyone who considers CNN or MSNBC to be fake news - will continue to believe Tapper and Bash are serial liars - and these rigged debates will just confirm that view.

I doubt a single mind will be changed.

If there are actually people sitting on the fence (which I can’t imagine), then I would think they would give President Trump points for having the balls to show up at a “debate” that is obviously rigged against him.

Conversely, I would think any true fence-sitters watching these “debates” would see right through any attempts to pass off Joe Biden as being fit to serve as POTUS.

Again - it’s impossible to believe anyone could still be sitting on the fence.
